The birth of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World is detailed in the new DC Finest New Gods collection.
The Fourth World: When the Old Gods Die includes New Gods #1-3, Forever People #1-4, Mister Miracle #1-4, Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #133-143, Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #111 and 115, and New Gods-related pages from Superman #233 and Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #114.
All stories are written by Jack Kirby and Robert Kanigher, with art by Kirby, Vince Colletta, Al Plastino, and Werner Roth.
The collection includes all the stories in chronological order, beginning with the first glimpses in 1970’s Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #133.
The content in the new DC Finest edition is very similar to the original Fourth World Omnibus Vol. One from 2007 (missing the fourth issues of Forever People and Mister Miracle and Jimmy Olsen issues #140-143). This original four volume hardcover series was reprinted in 2022 as a trade paperback box set.
The complete Fourth World saga was collected in two volumes in the larger, modern Omnibus editions, most recently released in 2021 and 2024.
DC Finest: The Fourth World: When the Old Gods Die consists of 560 pages for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
