Godzilla Minus One earned more than any previous Japanese Godzilla film at the North American box office this weekend (good enough for third place) with $11 million in tickets sold.
Godzilla Minus One (written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki) currently sits at close to $35 million worldwide and is the 37th film in the original Godzilla series.
In comparison to Minus One’s success, the last Godzilla film to screen in the U.S, Shin Godzilla, only made $2 million (although the film’s global total ended with $78 million)
Reviews for Godzilla Minus One have certainly helped the film’s bottom line, with a current lofty score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” rating from viewers polled by Cinemascore.
