Although the silver screen debut of The Eternals won’t be hitting theaters until November 2021, Marvel Comics will be prepping everyone for their emergence from the comic world with five graphic novel collections this January.
The collections were undoubtedly timed to coincide with The Eternals February 2021 theatrical release (before being pushed back to the fall of 2021) and will arrive comic shops and book stores a little early. Either way, fans of Jack Kirby’s Eternals will get collections of some hard to find stories, and those unfamiliar with the cosmic heroes will have more than enough source material to pour over before the film’s release.
The collections include:
–Eternals Cosmic Origins by Jack Kirby, Danny Fingeroth, Bob Harras, Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, Jim Valentino, Steve Epting, Ron Wilson, Rich Buckler. The collection features a new cover by Todd Nauck and contains Eternals (1976) #1-3, Avengers Spotlight #35, Avengers (1963) #361, and material from What If? (1977) #23-28.
–The Eternals: The Dreaming Celestial Saga by Peter B. Gillis, Walter Simonson, Roger Stern, Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, Sal Buscema, Al Milgrom, Ron Wilson, Luke McDonnell, Keith Pollard, Paul Ryan, Rich Buckler. Dreaming Celestial collects all 12 issues of the 1985 mini-series, along with Iron Man Annual #6, Avengers (1963) #246-248, and selections from What If? (1977) #23-30.
–The Mighty Thor and The Eternals: The Celestial Saga by Roy Thomas, Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, Keith Pollard, Walter Simonson, Arvell M. Jones, and John Buscema. The Celestial Saga contains all of the Thor issues (that made up almost a year of storytelling for the fair-haired God of Thunder) and contains The Mighty Thor (1966) #283-301 and Annual #7.
–Eternals: To Defy Apocalypse by Charles Knauf, Daniel Knauf, Fred Van Lente, Eric Nguyen, Pascal Alixe, and Daniel Acuna. One of the more recent series from 2008 is collected here and includes the entire series and Annual #1.
–Eternals by Jack Kirby Monster-Size HC collects the “King of Comics” entire first series from 1976 in an over-sized edition measuring 13” x 21”.
And just in case you need more Eternals, Marvel will release The Eternals Complete Saga Omnibus in December collecting: Eternals (1976) #1-19 and Annual #1, Eternals (1985) #1-12, Eternals: The Herod Factor one-shot, New Eternals: Apocalypse Now one-shot, Iron Man Annual #6, Avengers (1963) #246-248 and material from What If? (1977) #23-30. Some of the material in The Eternals Omnibus is replicated in a number of the other collections, so be sure and check the listings.
