The Fantastic Four: First Steps stepped out of the negative shadow of previous cinematic representations of Marvel’s First Family and finished in first place at the weekend box office with a $118 million start.
Fantastic Four scored high with fans and critics, pulling in an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- grade on CinemaScore exit polls.
FF started off slower internationally, with $100 million so far. The film will open in further international markets over the next few weeks, which should improve these numbers.
Superman stepped aside for the Four this weekend, and finished in second place with $25 million. James Gunn’s Superman is currently at $289 million domestic with an additional $231 million worldwide.
Jurassic World Rebirth came in third at the domestic box office, and grossed $13 million in its fourth weekend in theaters. Rebirth has grossed $301.51 million domestically and a whopping $416 worldwide, making it likely to be the highest performer in the current top three.
Check back next week to see how The Naked Gun remake impacts the weekend box office in an already crowded theater scene.
