One of the forgotten event series from 1995 gets the spotlight in the latest Fantastic Four Epic Collection titled Atlantis Rising.
Atlantis Rising collects Fantastic Four #393-402, Fantastic Force #7-9, Fantastic Four: Atlantis Rising #1-2, and Fantastic Four: Atlantis Rising Collectors’ Preview.
The Epic Collection contains work by Tom DeFalco, Paul Ryan, Tom Brevoort, Mike Kanterovich, Glenn Herdling, Mike Lackey, Paul Ryan, Dante Bastianoni, M.C. Wyman, Geof Isherwood, Danny Bulanadi, Ralph Cabrera, Rey Garcia, Don Hudson, Kevin Yates, Sam De La Rosa, Herb Trimpe, and Sandu Florea.
For those who don’t recall the continent-raising crossover, the trouble starts when ancient sorceress Morgan Le Fay brings Atlantis back to the surface world, causing a major crisis for Prince Namor and his water-breathing brethren. The FF jump into the fray, just as Thor, the Inhumans and Franklin Richards’ young team the Fantastic Force all become involved in the mess that La Fay created.
Other highlights include the Invisible Woman searching for her missing husband Mr. Fantastic, the disfigured Thing seeking revenge on Wolverine for scratching his face up (but at least Ben isn’t wearing that silver helmet anymore), and a Watcher goes rogue and sets his sites on destroying the Fantastic Four.
Getting back to the plight of Atlantis (and collectors), the new Epic Collection does not contain Namor, The Sub-Mariner #60-62, which are considered crossover issues, although the storyline is more about Namor and Black Knight, Marrina, Stingray, and Triton, with Namor getting trapped in the Knight’s Ebony Blade.
The latest FF collection also includes an afterword by Ralph Macchio.
The Fantastic Four: Atlantis Rising Epic Collection consists of 480 pages price for a suggested retail price of $44.99.
