Denis Villeneuve’s epic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune raked in ten Academy Award nominations over a wide variety of categories (most notably a nod for Best Picture), but Villeneuve did not get recognized in the Best Director category.
The other nominations include: Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Original Score, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects.
The Power of the Dog led the field with 12 nominations.
The Academy Awards ceremony will take place a little later than usual this year on Sunday, March 27 and will be broadcast on ABC, starting at 8:00 p.m. ET.
