‘Doctor Fate by J. M. DeMatteis’ Collects Writer’s Entire Run in New Trade Paperback  

J.M. DeMatteis’ late 1980s reinvention of Doctor Fate is collected in the new Doctor Fate by J.M. DeMatteis trade paperback collection, accounting for the writer’s entire run on the title.

The collection begins with 1987’s Doctor Fate four-issue mini-series and continues into the first 24 issues of the ongoing Doctor Fate series including Doctor Fate Annual #1.

DeMatteis is joined by a number of artists in the collection including Keith Giffen, Shawn McManus, Val Semeiks, Jim Fern, Joe Staton, Dave Hunt, Mark McKenna, Mark Buckingham, and Jeff Albrecht.

DeMatteis introduced a new Doctor Fate who would take over for the weary Kent Nelson and continue to carry out the will of the Lords of Order, principally led by Nabu the Wise. This new character turned out to be Eric Strauss, a youngster who was aged into an adult and trained in the mystical arts, donning the Helmet of Fate with the help of his stepmother, Linda, who he would combine with to wield the awesome power and responsibility of the Helmet.

The trade paperback also includes an introduction by by DeMatteis about the character and his time on the title.

Doctor Fate by J.M. DeMatteis consists of 776 pages for a suggested retail price of $59.99.
