Skybound/Image and Act 4 will expand beyond Artist’s Editions with Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition.
The new release collects Cooke’s The Spirit run from 2007 in its entirety for the first time in the new oversized Connoisseur Edition format and collects The Spirit #1-6, #8-12, and the Batman/The Spirit one-shot. The Spirit #7 is not included in the collection, which was written by Kyle Baker, Jimmy Palmiotti and Walter Simonson, with art by Baker, Jordi Bernet, Chris Sprouse, and Karl Story.
The Connoisseur Edition (a brand-new format developed by Act 4) also includes a gallery featuring all the covers, two variant covers from a Rocketeer/The Spirit crossover, several never-before-seen drawings, as well as an introduction by J. Bone, Cooke’s long-time collaborator.
The Connoisseur Edition comes in a decorated slipcase as well.
In addition to Connoisseur Editions, Skybound and Act 4’s deal will cover new Artist’s Edition hardcover books and single issue comics and series collections.
The first release in the new deal between Skybound/Image and Act 4 will be Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition in September.
Future releases within the publishing partnership include J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Artist Edition, Dave Stevens’ Covers and Stories’ Connoisseur Edition, Jason Pearson’s Body Bags Artist’s Edition, Paul Smith’s Leave It to Chance Artist’s Edition, and EC Comics Artist’s Editions. Publishing details for these books will be announced in the coming months.
Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition will be available at comic book shops on February 4, 2026 (and book stores one month later) for a suggested retail price of $100.00.
