If you are a fan of Mike Mignola, and have had a little extra time to browse the internet over the past six months, you might have discovered his postings on social media featuring original pencil sketches. After each original piece was completed, they were individually set up as auctions to raise money for Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen.
And for those of you that missed out on the auctions, you can now enjoy Mignola’s artwork and also benefit a worthy cause by purchasing Dark Horse comics Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook. All sales of the new, oversized hardcover collection will be donated to World Central Kitchen (WCK).
Mignola’s wife Christine actually suggested the idea to the artist (according to the official press release) since “José Andrés has been doing an amazing job getting food to people in need for a very long time, and now we are very happy to be doing what we can to help him with that.”
The collection features an introduction by Chistine Mignola, alongside sketches of Hellboy, beloved and unexpected pop culture characters, macabre chess pieces, gothic vegetable creatures, strange vampires, and even some familiar cereal pals.
Chef Andrés is not only a fan of Mignola, but he is also “… grateful for his support and continuous effort this year raising awareness and money for World Central Kitchen.” WCK was founded by Andrés in 2010 and is a non-profit organization that has served over 40 million fresh meals to those impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world. Andrés and his organization have helped people in The Bahamas, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mozambique, Venezuela, and the United States. During the recent Covid-19 pandemic, WCK has delivered more than 25 million fresh meals in 300+ cities and towns across the United States and Spain.
Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook goes on sale at finer comic book shops everywhere on March 3, 2021. The collection will be available in traditional bookstores a few weeks later on March 16, 2021.
