Comics Continued to Lead the Way on Kickstarter in 2022

Comic book and comic-related projects continue to dominate the Kickstarter campaign business with 2,205 successful projects launched on Kickstarter in 2022.

The overall success rate for all comics projects remained the best of any category on the crowdfunding platform with a 78 percent rate and a $30,984,765 funding total.

Kickstarter’s director of publishing and comics outreach, Oriana Leckert, says that “It’s thrilling to see that the indomitable #KickstarterReads creators have done it again: launched and succeeded with more projects than ever before, for the sixth year running. My favorite metric is the success rate, where comics remains the highest category on the entire platform at a truly incredible 78% for 2022. That’s incredible but by no means unbelievable, given the fantastic variety of projects brought to life here! We’ve got everything from Brian Pulido’s massively adored Lady Death series, to Beehive Books’ gorgeous 600-page accordion-folded Ronald Wimberley epic Gratuitous Ninja, to Eisner-winner James Tynion IV working with Elsa Charretier and PK Colinet to produce a live-action horror film and accompanying comic.”

The top five projects include: How to THINK when you DRAW BOOK 5 by Lorenzo Etherington ($945,500), Ava’s Demon Book Two: Aftermath by Michelle Fus/Skybound Entertainment ($648,198), All New Lady Death: Necrotic Genesis #1 by Coffin Comics ($532,722), Joe Jusko’s Art of the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces by FPG ($516,919), and All New Lady Death: Diabolical Harvest #1 by Coffin Comics ($500,138).
