Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez Named as the New Creative Team on ‘Batman’

Chip Zdarsky joins Jorge Jimenez as the new creative team on Batman, beginning with an oversized issue #125, on sale July 5.

DC Comics broke the news to comic retailers at the 2022 version of the annual ComicsPro event, also revealing that their first six-issue story arc will be titled “Failsafe”. Zdarsky, Jimenez, and colorist Tomeu Morey “Failsafe” begins with Bruce Wayne experiencing nightmares of a bleak future and the return of a villain from Batman’s past.

Zdarsky calls the assignment a “dream job” and that “Writing Batman, carving out his terrifying future has been so much fun, and getting to do it with Jorge, the perfect modern Batman artist, is almost overwhelming! “Failsafe” is just the beginning; Jorge and I are taking Bruce Wayne to some really wild places and we hope everyone enjoys the ride!”

Jimenez returns to Batman after a brief hiatus (with his last issue being #117 with writer James Tynion IV) and says that “Doing this with Chip, one of the best writers in comics, is simply the best possible scenario at this point in my career. Chip’s writing is inspiring me to create a new narrative and aesthetic, and I can’t wait to show Batman fans something different from my previous run.”

Batman #125 will come with a main wraparound cover by Jimenez, and variant covers by InHyuk Lee and Simone Di Meo.
