Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martín’s ‘Barrier’ Collected for First Time in New Trade Paperback Edition

Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martín’s 2018 Barrier Image Comics series gets collected for the first time in a new trade paperback edition this May.

Vaughan and Martín’s follow-up to their The Private Eye series (which was recently collected in a trade paperback edition in 2025 as well) explores culture, language, and immigration/migration through a trippy sci-fi lens in a story that is told in both English and Spanish without translation.

The five-issue series examines the lives of Texas rancher Liddy and Honduran immigrant Óscar at the U.S.-Mexico border before they are both transported to a completely different, confusing, and terrifying environment.

Barrier is again presented in in its original “widescreen” format (which forced readers to turn their comics sideways to read the story) and was originally published digitally on Panel Syndicate before the Image Comics series was released in traditional single issues.

The Barrier trade paperback will be available at your local local comic book shop on May 20.
