Before Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, the foundations for a more serious Batman were established in the Bronze Age stories of the Caped Crusader, now featured in their first Omnibus collection.
Batman: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1 collects Batman stories from Detective Comics #393-422 and Batman #217-241.
All stories are written by Frank Robbins, Denny O’Neil, Len Wein, Marv Wolfman, Robert Kanigher, and David Vern Reed.
Art is provided by Bob Brown, Joe Giella, Neal Adams, Dick Giordano, Carmine Infantino, Frank Giacoia, Irv Novick, Frank Robbins, Jim Mooney, Curt Swan, and Charles Paris.
The groundbreaking stories that would help define Batman in the future are clearly present here, with more noir and supernatural/horror-themed stories.
The collection includes the first appearances of Man-Bat, Ra’s Al Ghul, and Talia Al Ghul, with all three appearing in multiple storylines in the Omnibus.
As far as super villains go, Batman faces the familiar Two-Face and the Creeper, as well as the more obscure Moloch, the Ten-Eyed Man, and The Reaper in the collection.
The Bat-Girl and Robin back-up stories (primarily from Detective Comics) are not included in the Omnibus.
The Omnibus consists of 960 pages for a suggested retail price of $125.00.
