Batman and Friends Return to the ’70s for an Animated Martial Arts Adventure

The Dark Knight is headed back to the Denny O’Neil/Neal Adams era for a new animated adventure in 2021.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon is an original story, but it certainly seems inspired by the classic comic books from the 1970’s that started to bring Batman back to a more serious tone after the camp influence of the 1966 television series.

According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter’s “Heat Vision” section, The animated film will feature a team-up between Batman and three additional martial arts heroes from the 70’s in the form of Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger, and Lady Shiva.

Soul of the Dragon stars voice actors David Giuntoli as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Mark Dacascos as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, Michael Jai White as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger, James Hong as O-Sensei and Josh Keaton as Jeffrey Burr. Bruce Timm is executive producing and Sam Liu (known for animated version of Reign of the Supermen and The Killing Joke) will direct and also serve as a producer on the project. In addition, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge writer Jeremy Adams returned to the world of Kung-Fu action with his script for Soul of the Dragon.

Look for Batman: Soul of the Dragon to be released on home video and streaming platforms sometime in 2021.
