Love it or hate it, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water has become the sixth movie in history to earn $2 Billion worldwide, reaching Cameron’s originally stated profitability threshold.
The film is also Cameron’s third to join the rarified air of the $2 Billion club, with Titanic and his original Avatar film having previously reached this milestone.
Avatar: The Way of Water’s current estimated total sits at $2.024 Billion worldwide, with a Pandoran Whale-sized $1.426 Billion from international markets.
The Way of Water now sits in the number four position all time for International box office, behind only Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, and Titanic.
The film will almost certainly pass Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the worldwide box office category before The Way of the Water swims downstream, although Titanic’s $2.194 Billion may be out of reach.
