Maybe all that time stuck in our houses was actually good for something? According to Kickstarter, the comic book fans pledged over $22 million in 2020 for comic projects, eclipsing last year’s record of $16.9 million (and the year isn’t even finished yet). The comic category’s success rate also hit an all-time high of 74 percent funded, “…almost twice as high as the site average across all Kickstarter categories.”
Over 1,300 projects helped shatter the record, including high profile kickstarters such as Scott Snyder and Tony Daniel’s Nocterra and BRZRKR, a graphic novel by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney, “…which raised $1.45 million and became the most-funded Comics project of all time.”
With two full months to go in 2020, the $22 million total will certainly be added to, with projects such as Lance Briggs and Kyle Higgins The Trap and Elvira’s “quarantine apocalypse” comic (which just passed the $100,000 benchmark) leading the way.
