Wonder Woman and DC Super Hero Girls writer Shea Fontana has been named showrunner for a new Monster High animated series, set to premier on Nickelodeon is 2022. Fontana also worked on DC Super Hero Girls animated shorts, TV specials, and movies along with the original graphic novels for DC Comics.
The new series (based on Mattel Toys successful figures) will once again follow the high school exploits of Frankie Stein, Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Cleo De Nile, Lagoona Blue, Ghoulia Yelps and many other “freaky and fabulous” characters around the halls of Monster High.
Ramsey Naito, President of Nickelodeon Animation, is happy to welcome the franchise back to the network, stating that “These classic monsters have always captured kids’ imaginations and we are so excited and proud to welcome Monster High to our brand for a new generation of kids. We have terrific partners on board at Mattel to create original content in different formats, and, with the expertise of the Nick creative team helmed by Claudia Spinelli on the animation development side, and Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan on the live-action side, we can’t wait to showcase the comedy and adventure of these characters as they defy expectations and take on the world.”
As mentioned above, Monster High fans will also get the first live-action feature in the form of a musical with Jenny Jaffe (Big Hero 6 TV series) writing the TV movie, alongside Greg Erb and Jason Oremland (Princess and the Frog).
