Universal’s modern Wolf Man remake couldn’t chase fans into theaters this weekend, finishing in third place with an estimated $10.5 million first weekend at the box office.
Wolf Man suffered from a middling Tomatometer score of 53% and an even scarier grade of C- by those polled by CinemaScore at theaters.
The fact that Nosferatu is still taking in classic horror dollars also didn’t help, with the vampire movie taking in an additional $4.3 million over the weekend for a domestic total of $89 million.
Although January is traditionally one of the slowest box office months of any year, don’t expect Wolf Man to turn things around in upcoming weeks, as holiday holdovers such as Nosferatu, Mufasa, Wicked, and Sonic 3 continue to eat up local screens.
Come back next week to see if Wolf Man mounts an unlikely comeback (it is a full moon next Friday).
