John Ostrander’s 1980’s reinvention of the Suicide Squad takes center stage in the new DC Finest: Suicide Squad: Trial by Fire collection.
Trial by Fire collects the start of the team in 1987 in Suicide Squad #1-10, and a number of guest appearances in Secret Origins #14, Detective Comics #582, Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #62-64, Firestorm: The Nuclear Man Annual #5, and Millennium #4.
The collection also includes Legends #1-6 which introduced the new team, along with revamps of long-established characters post-Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Along with Ostrander, the DC Finest edition contains work by Jo Duffy, Lein Wein, Steve Englehart, Luke McDonnell, Norm Breyfogle, Joe Brozowski, John Byrne, Joe Staton, Karl Kesel, Bob Lewis, Dave Hunt, Pablo Marcos, Dick Giordano, Sam De La Rosa, and Alfredo Alcala
The former Task Force X transforms into the villain-heavy Suicide Squad, mainly composed of Deadshot, Rick Flag, Captain Boomerang, Bronze Tiger, Nightshade, and the Enchantress.
DC Finest: Suicide Squad: Trial by Fire consists of 560 pages for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
