When you have a rogue’s gallery as deep as Spider-Man’s, it doesn’t take long to establish (or reestablish) a Sinister Six.
That being said, it certainly doesn’t make Spidey’s life any easier as evidenced by the main storyline in the reissued The Return of the Sinister Six Epic Collection.
The stories in the Epic Collection (from 1990 to 1991) are taken from The Amazing Spider-Man #334-350 by David Michelinie, with art by Erik Larsen, Mark Bagley, Mike Machlan, Terry Austin, Randy Emberlin, Keith Williams and John Romita, Sr.
The main event is, of course, Doctor Octopus’ plans to lead a new Sinister Six into battle against all of the member’s most hated foe. The new team of super villains includes: Doc Ock, Electro, Mysterio, the Vulture, the Sandman, and the Hobgoblin.
Directly following Spidey’s battle with the new Sinister Six, the wallcrawler loses his powers and has to go up against another six villains in the form of the Scorpion, the Tarantula, and the Femme Fatales (Knockout, Mindblast, Bloodlust, and Whiplash).
Return of the Sinister Six also includes appearances by Venom, Rhino, Cardiac, the Avengers, and Doctor Doom.
Charles Vess’ rare Amazing Spider-Man: Spirits of the Earth is an added bonus in the Epic Collection, reprinting Vess’ 1991 hardcover graphic novel that sees Peter and Mary Jane take a trip to Scotland and spend the night in a haunted castle (which M.J. just inherited).
The Return of the Sinister Six Epic Collection was first released in 2016 and the six-part title story (#334-339) was originally put together in a graphic novel in 1994.
The Epic Collection consists of 504 pages for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
