TCM Spotlights Science Fiction’s Pulp Roots on April 25

As part of TCM’s April spotlight on Pulp Fiction, the classic film channel celebrates science fiction, fantasy, and high adventure on Friday, April 25 with a host of genre staples.

The fun starts at 8:00 pm EST with 1951’s Cold War parable The Thing From Another World. The original short story titled “Who Goes There?” by John W. Campbell (under the pen name Don A. Stuart) was originally published in 1938 in Astounding Science-Fiction.

Travel from the arctic to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ tropical The Land That Time Forget in the 1974 adaptation of the pulp classic (with a screenplay co-written by none other than Elric’s Michael Moorcock) at 9:45 pm EST.

You know what they could have used in The Land That Time Forgot? A doctor, and what better doctor can you locate than Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze! The muscle-bound scientist and adventurer takes center stage in 1975’s adaptation of a number of his pulp stories at 11:30 pm EST.

Saturday morning (also know as the Late, Late Show) offers insomniacs the chance to see some sword & sorcery tales in 1985’s Red Sonja and 1965’s She and a sci-fi time travel story featuring Jack the Ripper in 1979’s Time After Time.

Enjoy the line-up on April 25 (and 26) and stay tuned to Conskipper for all of TCM news.
