To accompany the recent ComiXology re-release of Kurt Busiek’s award-winning Astro City comic catalog, Busiek, Brent Anderson, Alex Ross, Alex Sinclair, and Comicraft team up for a brand new special from Image Comics this March—the Astro City: That Was Then… one-shot.
Along with talent working on the story, the variant covers will feature mash-ups between Astro City characters and some of Image’s recent series by creators such as Erik Larsen, Marcelo Costa, Leandro Fernández, Jamie McKelvie, Chip Zdarsky, and Rob Guillory and their respective creations including Savage Dragon and Samaritan, Radiant Black and the Confessor, The Old Guard and Cleopatra, Beautie in full The Wicked + The Divine style, Quarrel and Crackerjack in a Sex Criminals homage, and Tony Chu and the First Family’s Rex in a Chew-style trip to Beefy Bob’s.
Astro City: That Was Then… will light the fuse for the upcoming Astro City series as five teen sidekicks team-up for a road trip in 1969 and uncover a mystery that impacts the present.
In addition to the new one-shot, the first physical re-release of the classic stories, Astro City Metrobook, will also be released on March 30. MetroBook collects the first six issues of the original series and all twelve issues of Vol. 2.
