Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino Reunite for Image Comics Cold War Sci-Fi Series ‘Primordial’

Frequent collaborators Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino will reunite for a new Cold War era science fiction series from Image Comics entitled Primordial this September.

The six issue miniseries begins at the start of the space race, when the USSR launches a dog into space and the USA sends two monkeys up in a rocket. The only problem is that neither the dog or the monkeys return from their missions…until now.

Lemire announced the new series appropriately enough on Space.com and said that “Andrea and I were keen for our next collaboration after the success of Gideon Falls, but we also didn’t want to repeat ourselves. I think with Primordial we are trying something totally new and different for us. This book is part Cold War thriller and part deep space sci-fi, but all grounded in an alt-history take on the first animals sent to space. This book is full of mystery, adventure and intrigue and Andrea and I have both tried to push ourselves into new story telling territory.”

Sorrentino “…was totally in love with Primordial from the first time I read the pitch Jeff sent me. It’s thrilling, it’s noir, it’s moving and it’s full of heart. It’s also weird and crazy and it’s pushing me to new, exciting art approaches. Can’t wait for readers to have the first issue in their hands in September.”

Primordial #1 lands on September 15 and comes with five different covers and four incentive covers. Check out Sorrentino’s cover and the first page of issue one below and be sure to stay tuned to Conskipper for all of your comic news.
