Fantastic Four Suffer From ‘The Crusader Syndrome’ in New Epic Collection

The latest Fantastic Four Epic Collection offers fans a slice of mid-70s action by some prominent writers and artists of the day.

The Fantastic Four: The Crusader Syndrome Epic Collection contains Fantastic Four #147-167, Giant Size Fantastic Four #2-4, and the second half of the marriage of Crystal and Quicksilver in The Avengers #127.

All of the stories are written by Gerry Conway, Tony Isabella, Len Wein, Marv Wolfman, Chris Claremont, and Steve Englehart, before Roy Thomas took over for a stretch beginning in Fantastic Four #156 in 1975. Art is provided by Rich Buckler, Bob Brown, John Buscema, Sal Buscema, Joe Sinnott, Jim Mooney, Frank Giacoia, Mike Esposito, Chic Stone, Vince Colletta, Joe Staton, and George Perez.

The Crusader Syndrome contains plenty of drama and intrigue with the perpetually strained relationship of Reed and Sue Richards taking a turn for the worse, leading to Sue joining Namor for an invasion of New York City. Other highlights include: the return of the Frightful Four and Doctor Doom (with a plot to pit the Silver Surfer against the First Family once again), the departure of Medusa and return of Sue to the team, the debut of Thundra’s Femizons, Mahkizmo the Nuclear Man, and Madrox the Multiple Man, Johnny Storm’s acquisition of a new red suit to match his flame powers, a four part alternate-earth adventure, a two-part battle with the Incredible Hulk, and the tragic tale that gives the Epic Collection its title starring the short-lived Crusader (based on the original Marvel boy who looks a lot like Quasar, who would inherit the Crusader’s Quantum Bands).

The Fantastic Four: The Crusader Syndrome Epic Collection consists of 520 pages for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
