The New Mutants film has taken a long and winding road to the silver screen, and it appears that the troubles associated with the production have even extended to days before the film’s official release.
Since Disney didn’t offer special screenings or review links to critics, many are staying away from the film which can currently only be seen in theaters. Some of the returned invitations include: IndieWire, The A.V. Club, The Boston Globe, and RogerEbert.com. Another factor is that theaters are still closed in the New York and Los Angeles metro regions, making it especially difficult for critics to attend live screenings in their area.
New Mutants has experienced as much heart-ache and trouble as any mutant in the Marvel Universe, moving its release date a total of five times, equaling two and half years in delays. New Mutants was originally scheduled to screen on January 11, 2018, then to March 27, 2018, then to May 7, 2019, then to March 12, 2020, and finally to August 27, 2020.
With the current state of the world, don’t be surprised if New Mutants finds its way to video on demand services or Disney+ in the near future, but until then, the only place to finally see this film is in theaters.
New Mutants was directed by Josh Boone and stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Alice Braga (I Am Legend), Blu Hunt (The Originals) and Henry Zaga.
Stay tuned to Conskipper for a box office report this weekend.
