Although fans may remember the 1980 debut of the tales of Conan’s reign being titled King Conan, the upcoming omnibus entitled Conan the King: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1 is sure to bring back some good memories.
The first Conan the King (which became the original comic book’s title starting with issue #20 in 1984) Omnibus comprises issues #1-19 of the somewhat quarterly (and over-sized) King Conan series by Roy Thomas, Doug Moench, Alan Zelenetz, John Buscema, Ernie Chan, Danny Bulanadi, Rudy Nebres, Marc Silvestri, and Mike Gustovich.
The majority of the story arcs in the collection consist of adaptations (much like Marvel’s original Conan the Barbarian series) of the hero’s later pulp adventures by L. Sprague de Camp, Lin Carter, and Bjorn Nyberg during Conan’s rule as king of Aquilonia. The stories also introduced the world to Queen Zenobia and heir to the throne, Prince Conn, and also featured the return of the nefarious Thoth-Amon.
Conan the King: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1 consists of a Conan bicep-sized 776 pages, with a suggested retail price of $125.00.
Look for the mighty omnibus in stores on June 29 and check out Stefano Caselli (standard) and John Buscema’s (variant) covers below.
