The drippy, amorphous, and devious faces of Clayface are unearthed in the reissued Batman Arkham: Clayface trade paperback collection.
Clayface collects stories from the Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Modern Age of Comics including Detective Comics #40, 298, 478 and 479, Outsiders #21, Secret Origins #44, Batman #550, Catwoman #4, Batman Villains Secret Files, Batman Gotham Knights #68-71, and Batman: The Dark Knight #23.3.
All stories are written by Bill Finger, Len Wein, Mike W. Barr, Dan Raspler, Doug Moench, Ed Brubaker, Steve Purcell, A.J. Lieberman and John Layman, with art by Bob Kane, Sheldon Moldoff, Marshall Rogers, Jim Aparo, Keith Giffen, Bernie Mireault, Tom Grummett, Kelley Jones, J.H. Williams III, Darwyn Cooke, Mike Mignola, Al Barrionuevo, Cliff Richards, Jerry Robinson, Charles Paris, Dick Giordano, Al Gordon, Denis Rodier, Gary Martin, John Beatty, Mick Gray, Mike Allred, and Kevin Nowlan.
The three most prominent Clayfaces (Basil Karlo, Matt Hagen, and Preston Payne) get most of the spotlight here (although there have been a total of 11 clay-faced villains over the character’s entire publication history), showcasing a variety of shape-changing and clay-related powers.
Batman Arkham: Clayface was originally published in 2017. It is no surprise that DC Comics brought the collection back with DC Studios Clayface film due in theaters on October 23 (starring Tom Rhys Harries as the Matt Hagen version of the character).
The trade paperback consists of 320 pages for a suggested retail price of $24.99.
