One of the most celebrated and revered films of all time, Citizen Kane, will return to cinemas this September as a special TCM Big Screen Classics Fathom Events performance in celebration of its 80th Anniversary.
Turner Classic Movies Host Ben Mankiewicz (and grandson of Citizen Kane scriptwriter Herman Mankiewicz) will also provide insight into the film as part of the screening of the classic Orson Welles feature film.
Mankiewicz sees the film as a very relevant and prescient commentary on the “…corporate control of media and the dangers of misusing power.” Like many critics and fans, he also does not think the film itself can be remade by another director, because “No one is making Citizen Kane better than Orson Welles, the same way that no one is making Casablanca better than Michael Curtiz.”
Citizen Kane will be in theaters around the country for a two showings on Sunday, September 19 and Wednesday, September 22.
