When Marvel first created an anthology called X-Men Legends, it was only a matter of time before the writer most associated with the title, Chris Claremont, returned to expand on his already voluminous work with the world-famous mutants.
Claremont makes his return to the X-Verse with artist Scot Eaton in February in a story set before the start of one of the original X-Men spin-offs, Excalibur. Claremont’s Excalibur prequel story takes place directly after 1988’s “Fall of the Mutants” storyline and will primarily feature Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde, as they contend with a vengeful Mystique and her powerful, and mysterious Brotherhood of Evil Mutants compatriot Destiny
Claremont is excited to return to the title that he is most synonymous with and said that “It’s always fun wandering back along existing pathways and especially having the opportunity to fill in a couple of nifty gaps that were initially skipped over along the way—closing off one significant story-arc and lighting the fire that ignites the series that follows. Talk about a treat!”
