Captain America Cleans Up ‘Streets of Poison’ Once Again in Epic Collection

Captain America takes on the drug epidemic only to get dosed in the reissued Captain America: Street of Poison Epic Collection.

The second edition (originally released in 2015) continues Mark Gruenwald’s “epic” run on Cap, focusing on 1990 and 1991 and Captain America #372-386 and Captain America Annual #9-10.

Along with Gruenwald, the collection includes writing by Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, Fabian Nicieza, Tom Defalco, Ron Frenz, and D.G. Chichester, and art by Ron Lim, Mark Bagley, Jim Valentino, Mike Manley, Don Hudson, Chris Marrinan, Ron Wilson, Dan Panosian, Don Heck, James Brock, Larry Alexander, Mike Parker, Danny Bulanadi, Sam de la Rosa, Tom Morgan, Bob Downs, Romeo Tanghal, D. Hedd, Fred Fredericks, and Tim Dzon.

The originally bi-weekly, seven-part “Streets of Poison” storyline (with art by Lim and Bulanadi) sees Steve Rogers get an accidental overdose of the new drug named “Ice” that combines with his Super-Soldier Serum and makes the normally cool and collected Cap a raging lunatic. “Streets of Poison” contains guest appearances by Daredevil, the Black Widow, and Diamondback, as Rogers contends with the Red Skull, the Kingpin, Crossbones, and Bullseye and the disastrous effects of the drug at the same time.

The star-spangled Avenger also celebrates his 50th anniversary in the Epic Collection, faces frequent foes the Serpent Society and the Watchdogs, and has yet another disagreement with Tony Stark.

Both annuals included are part of two summer crossover events, “The Terminus Factor” and “The Von Strucker Gambit”, with additional ancillary material and bonus stories in each.

Captain America: Street of Poison Epic Collection consists of 512 pages for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
