American Nightmare collects Captain America #1-14, Iron Man/Captain America Annual, and Captain America Annual 1998.
Along with Waid, the stories contain work by Kurt Busiek, Karl Kesel, Barbara Kesel, Roger Stern, Ron Garney, Dale Eaglesham, Andy Kubert, Patrick Zircher, Mark Bagley, Doug Braithwaite, Bob Wiacek, Scott Koblish, Jesse Delperdang, Randy Emberlin, Robin Riggs, John Beatty, Andy Smith, Greg Adams, and Scott Hann.
Cap picks up his original shield and a new digital one in the stories, taking on a new Hydra, Nightmare, the Super Skrull, Citizen V, and M.O.D.O.K. (in a team-up with Iron Man).
