Arnold Schwarzenegger and Christopher McQuarrie will try to bring the long-rumored King Conan film to life in the near future.
McQuarrie (the director of the last four Mission: Impossible films) is attached to write and direct King Conan for 20th Century Studios (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
Schwarzenegger spoke about the project at the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, and said, “It’s a great story where Conan was 40 years king and he gets complacent, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom, slowly. Then there’s conflict, of course, and then he somehow comes back, and then there’s all kinds of madness and violence and magic and creatures. Now, of course, you have all the special effects, and the studio system has plenty of money to make those movies really big. So I’m looking forward to all of those projects.”
Schwarzenegger also teased a return to the Predator franchise and a recent script for Commando 2 that was written with the star in mind.
The original Conan the Barbarian and the sequel, Conan the Destroyer, were released by Arrow Video in 2024 in an updated 4K format (and with plenty of extras for Conan-heads).
No official plans have been announced on any of these projects, so stay tuned to Conskipper for further Arnold and Conan updates.
