McFarlane Toys new Marvel license goes back to the comics for inspiration with a line of collectible comic figures/statues that any fan will easily recognize.
With a first wave already released featuring multiple Spider-Man figures (and also ones based on Wolverine, Daredevil, Venom, Deadpool, and others), figures in the upcoming line include new 1:10th and 1:6th scale sculpts based on Spider-Man and the Hulk by McFarlane himself, featuring three dimensional versions of iconic covers like Incredible Hulk #340 and #345, Spider-Man #1, and Amazing Spider-Man #316.
Each figure will also come with a digital code redeemable for a digital copy of the original comic as well.
While the first wave was primarily focused on cover art and well-established heroes, McFarlane says that the transformations will not be limited to covers alone and will also go deep into “Marvel’s bench” for new figures based on iconic interior artwork from Marvel’s long publication history.
“You can only do so many Iron Mans, sort of the core Avengers. You can only do those so many times. Marvel has this really deep bench of characters that goes 50 deep really easily. You can name 50 characters really easily” McFarlane said.
Look for other artist’s work to be featured in the future, which poses an exciting problem for McFarlane.
“Then the other one is just to get those million drawings—there’s been tens of thousands of artists—and they all have their own look and style. Sometimes, we just pick not because necessarily it resonates, but because the style of it is so cool and different than the other ones” McFarlane said.
