Justice League Detroit Featured in New ‘DC Finest: Justice League of America-The Return’

There was a time in the 80s when the Justice League of American made their base of operations in Detroit.

Gerry Conway, Luke McDonnell, George Tuska, and Bill Wray’s Justice League Detroit is featured in the new Justice League of America: The Return DC Finest edition.

The Return collects Justice League of America #241-261, Justice League of America Annual #3, and Infinity Inc. #19.

Along with Conway, McDonnell, Tuska, and Wray, the collection includes additional work by J.M. DeMatteis, Dan Mishkin, Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, Rick Hoberg, Todd McFarlane, Mike Machlan, Bob Smith, Steve Montano, Mike Gustovich, and Steve Montano.

Justice League Detroit’s line-up was bereft of many of the “A-List” heroes associated with the team (other than Martian Manhunter) opting for a younger, hipper, and more diverse roster of heroes such as Zatanna, Vixen, Elongated Man, Vibe, Gypsy, and Steel.

The lack of fire power on the team led to some creative storytelling and more of a “slice of life” approach to the characters. although there are plenty of guest stars such as Aquaman and Mera, Infinity Inc., and Batman (who serves as the leader of the team for a bit) and villains like Amazo, Despero, and Adam.

Justice League of America: The Return consists of 584 pages for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
